About this Session

Moral injury can occur in any situation in which an individual must carry out, fails to prevent, or witnesses something that violates their moral beliefs and expectations. This is usually a result of systemic constraints and lack of resources. Staff working with vulnerable individuals are highly likely to experience moral injury, which is linked to burnout and other adverse emotional impacts. This session will help you to understand what moral injury is, how to spot it in yourself, and how to prevent it from impacting negatively on your wellbeing.

About this Series

The Frontline Network is really pleased to be working with the team at BGPS to offer these free, online, monthly spaces for frontline staff working with people experiencing homelessness in England. Sessions will connect peers, share learning and experiences, and take away helpful resources to support people in their roles. Staff facilitating sessions each have frontline and clinical practice experience.

Each session will have a different, but complimentary, theme focus. Key to each session will be providing practical ways staff can support themselves through the often challenging and busy environments they work in, which impacts their energy, wellbeing, physical and mental health.

Other sessions in this series have covered the following topics:

  • Managing Compassion Fatigue
  • Holding our boundaries to support ourselves

How will the session be structured?

Each 90 minutes session will have a set theme focus and have two trained facilitators to run these. Sessions will provide a balance of:

  • Facilitator presented information on the topic focus
  • Small group breakout conversations with up to 4 people to reflect, talk and share around some guided questions
  • Opportunities to hear and feedback to learn from others in the large-group format
  • Round up of helpful resources to take away afterwards

We are offering different times and days of the week each month for these, to accommodate differing work patterns and staff schedules, all within a bite sized 90 minutes timeslot.

Who can attend

The Frontline Network is trying to increase its reach and connect with more staff via online and in person connect events in areas of England where it does not currently run a local network in. Currently, these sessions are only open to:

  • Staff in England who work directly with a group of people experiencing homelessness.
  • Staff based in areas outside of London, Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde, Brighton & Hove or Leeds.

We want to provide these additional connection points to staff in other areas to be able to meet, share and learn from other peers and access helpful resources to support them in their roles.

Please note, to ensure equitable offer to frontline workers in instances of high demand, we reserve to the right to return tickets for registrants where a person may have attended one or more sessions within this series of events previously or if more than four individuals from the same organisation register for the same event.

How are other session topics decided?

Each attendee will receive a short feedback form after the session, and this will inform onward focuses. Initial session themes being offered build on topics raised in conference and survey feedback.

What about my opportunities to attend networking events if I am based in one of the above areas?

If you are based in one of the following areas of England, we have the following local networks who run regular networking and training events. We’ve included some upcoming events they are offering along with links to register to be updated on upcoming events. We’ve also included links to our devolved nation networks.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our team on frontline@stmartinscharity.org.uk· Northern Ireland Frontline Network- register to their e-news here and also see here for upcoming training events they are facilitating.
