Fair Way Scotland: Destitution by Design

Monday, November 25, 2024 - 12:30:00 PM until

There is an often-hidden humanitarian crisis in Scotland’s communities. Join this webinar to hear about new research (read the briefing here) into the experiences of people living in destitution due to the very design of the UK immigration system.

Whether it is EU citizens, or people seeking asylum, or others with complex visa situations - this vital research into Fair Way Scotland by I-SPHERE and funded by Joseph Rowntree Foundation, gives new insight into the exceptionally high levels of deprivation, hunger and homelessness that they experience.

Importantly, the report also sets out what needs to be done about it.

If you care about communities, homelessness, poverty, welfare, human rights, safety, wellbeing and more – then this webinar is for you.

It won’t delve into immigration law details and complex constitutional conundrums, but it will talk about people and how we can make sure that they are treated with dignity.

The event will also set out some actions that you and your organisation can take on this issue.

Expert contributors will include:

  • Professor Beth Watts-Cobbe
Professorial Fellow and Deputy Director of Heriot-Watt University's Institute for Social Policy, Housing and Equalities Research
  • Deborah Hay
Senior Policy Adviser (Scotland), Joseph Rowntree Foundation
  • Jen Ang
    Founding Director, Lawmanity
  • Maggie Brünjes
Chief Executive of Homeless Network Scotland

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions of an expert panel.
