The first NI Frontline Network training workshop for 2024 will be taking place on Thursday 14 March between 10am and 3.30pm at NICVA at 61 Duncairn Gardens in Belfast. The session is focused on Understanding and Tackling Hoarding.

Who is running the workshop?

Jack Moore, from Respect my Stuff, will be coming to Belfast to run the training session. Jack has over 15 years training and consultancy experience on hoarding and mental illness in the UK and RoI. He has researched world-wide best practice in understanding and tackling hoarding and developed a proven system of dealing with hoarding in a practical and timely manner.

What does the workshop involve?

This in-person course explores all aspects of hoarding (and extreme clutter).  It will increase your understanding of hoarding as a mental illness or as a result of another mental illness, the reasons why someone hoards and the best ways to support them, including positive language and rapport building.

It will also give you the skills and knowledge to take the lead in inter-agency working in the most serious cases, partnering with fire and rescue and legal options, including environmental health and tenancy law.

Among other things, the course covers:

  • Hoarding types in detail, including links with OCD, research findings and psychological theory
  • Hoarding disorder and hoarding as a result of other mental illness, brain injury or learning disability
  • Treatment options, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Exploring the benefits of multi-agency responses and identifying key partners – e.g. landlords, health services, social services, environmental health, housing, third sector mental health support agencies, fire service
  • Overview of the legal issues including disability and mental health legislation, housing law and environmental health powers

How do I sign up?

There are a limited number of places for this training workshop taking place on Thursday 14 March between 10.00am and 3.30pm at NICVA, 61 Duncairn Gardens, Belfast, BT15 2GB.

To ensure that a wide range of organisations can benefit from the session, we are initially restricting bookings to two places per organisation but we will run a waiting list to make sure as many people can benefit as possible.

As with all Frontline Network Training, the workshop is free to attend. Lunch will also be provided.

The places are being offered on a first come, first served basis and you can book your place by emailing admin@homelessconnect.org. If you have any dietary requirements, please do include them in your email.

Training Fund

Training Fund offers a one off grant for you or your organisation to undertake a training course to benefit your service and services users.

Individuals can apply for up to £500 to cover the cost of training and groups can apply for up to £1,500.
