Ending Homelessness in Communities Fund

Monday, March 2, 2026

A £37 million government fund aimed at strengthening community-led responses to homelessness is now open for applications.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has announced the Ending Homelessness in Communities Fund (EHCF), a three-year programme designed to support smaller voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) organisations working on the frontline of homelessness and rough sleeping.

The investment will provide a mix of revenue and capital funding to eligible organisations across England, with the aim of preventing homelessness, improving local services and helping people move towards independent living.

Focus on Smaller, Established Providers

The competitive fund is open to VCFS organisations in England with an annual income of £5 million or less. Applicants must have at least three years’ experience delivering support to people at risk of — or currently experiencing — homelessness and rough sleeping.

By targeting smaller, established providers, the programme signals a focus on locally embedded organisations with strong community ties and a track record of delivering practical support.

Successful applicants will be able to bid for revenue funding, capital funding or a combination of both, although both types must be requested within a single application. Funding will be distributed over three years.

MHCLG has stated that it reserves the right not to allocate the full £37 million if bids do not meet the required quality threshold. A second round of funding may also be introduced.

Key Dates for Applicants

Applications close at midday on Monday 31 March 2026.

The assessment process will take place in April, followed by moderation in May. Funding decisions are expected to be announced in June 2026, with Grant Funding Agreements issued the same month.

The first grant payments are scheduled for August 2026, subject to the submission of a Grant Claim Form. Funding for Years 2 and 3 will become available from May 2027 and May 2028 respectively.

Community-Led Prevention

The fund forms part of wider efforts to address the underlying causes of homelessness and shift greater emphasis towards prevention and early intervention.

For eligible VCFS organisations, the EHCF represents a significant funding opportunity at a time when demand for homelessness support services remains high and many local providers face financial pressure.

With the application window limited to just over a month, organisations considering a bid will need to prepare early to meet the deadline.
