DWP Launches Pension Credit Toolkit

Tuesday, February 18, 2020

Did you know they average Pension Credit Payment is around £58 per week? That’s over £3,000 per year.

The Department for Work and Pensions has launched a new campaign to encourage people to take up their Pension Credit entitlement.

At the Frontline Network, we know that some people may not be getting Pension Credit when they might be eligible for it. We want to change that by raising awareness of the benefit and encouraging people to find out more.

Pension Credit Overview

  • Pension Credit is an income-related benefit made up of 2 parts - Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit.

  • Guarantee Credit tops up your weekly income if it’s below £167.25 (for single people) or £255.25 (for couples).

  • Savings Credit is an extra payment for people who saved some money towards their retirement, for example a pension.

  • You do not pay tax on Pension Credit.

The DWP’s campaign is aimed to target people over State Pension age, their friends and family, as well as frontline advisers supporting them.

Why you should check eligibility

  • People of State Pension age may be entitled to Pension Credit even though they may have savings or retirement income or own their own home.
  • Any award of Pension Credit can provide access to a range of other benefits such as help with rent, council tax, heating and NHS services.

Please use the DWP’s Pension Credit toolkit now, to check whether the person you are supporting is eligible for receipt of pension credit.

This useful tool not only checks eligibility, it calculates how much pension credit the person you are supporting might get.

If you have any queries in relation to the Pension Credit toolkit, or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us: frontline@stmartincharity.org.uk.
