Apply for funding for young people's homelessness projects in London via StreetSmart fund

Wednesday, August 17, 2022

StreetSmart and LandAid would like to share an exciting opportunity for charities based in London to apply for between £10,000 - £50,000 for projects and initiatives supporting young people in the city who are homeless or vulnerably housed to access and maintain suitable accommodation.

What is the context?

StreetSmart was established in 1998 and since then has raised over £11.2 million for homeless and vulnerable people across the UK. At participating restaurants during the festive months of November and December, with the benefit of a tablecard or a reference on the menu, a voluntary £1 is added to the diners’ bill. At the end of each month, the restaurant passes on all of these £1s to StreetSmart. We then use them to support reputable charities for people facing homelessness. The funds raised in London last year are now available to distribute to charities supporting young people to access and maintain accommodation.

LandAid is the property industry charity working to end youth homelessness in the UK. We bring together remarkable businesses and individuals across the property industry to support projects providing life-changing accommodation for young people facing homelessness and are collaborating with StreetSmart on this funding opportunity.

What is the Youth Homelessness Support Fund?

The fund is relatively wide-ranging in terms of what kind of projects we can potentially support. We don’t want to be prescriptive, we would like to hear from you about what is most needed. We would however particularly like to hear from projects which meet some, or all of, the following criteria:

  • Creating additional bedspaces for young people along the positive pathway and/or
  • Support young people into accommodation (emergency, supported or move-on accommodation) and/or
  • Help ensure young people do not become homeless in the first place and/or
  • Work with cohorts of young people where there is an identified, growing homelessness need in London currently (i.e. young women, young people who identify as LBGTQIA+) and/or
  • Where our funding will make a tangible difference to the project's long-term sustainability

Here are some examples of projects we have funded in the past.

For more details please see the attached guidance.

What are the timescales?

The deadline for applications is 17.00 Monday 19th September. Charities will be contact to learn if they are successful or not by early October with funds potentially being available to draw-down later that month. The application form is available online. The questions on the application form are listed in the attached guidance for your information.

If you have any questions or would like some assistance with the application, please contact grants@landaid.org. We aim to reply within three working days.
