The funding gap - Free Legal Advice Sector

A new report from the Community Justice Fund outlines the free legal advice sector is facing a £30 million funding gap this year meaning that nearly 43,000 of the most vulnerable people will go without the advice and assistance they need.
The Community Justice Fund's Funding Gap Report on the Free Legal Advice Sector 2023-24 has just been launched. This report and figures are based on conversation with Community Justice Fund grantees and are meant to give a broad indication of the issues faced by advice services at the frontline.
In addition to strengthening our understanding about the increased impact that the cost of living crisis is having on advice organisations, the report also highlights our key learning around the relationship between long term core costs funding and addressing the workforce wellbeing and retention issues facing the frontline.
The most effective way to address these issues would be longer term investment in the core costs of running advice organisations. The Access to Justice Foundation is committed to providing unrestricted grants wherever possible to support organisations and their workforces. The Foundation promotes the development of multi-year grants to frontline advice agencies to enable them to continue to run effective services.
