New project to openly publish data on grants to individuals

Monday, September 5, 2022

ACO and 360Giving, part funded by St Martin’s Charity, are working on a project to openly publish data on grants to individuals.

At St Martin’s Charity we provide small, quick grants that prevent eviction or help people access accommodation through our Vicar’s Relief Fund (VRF). We are interested in better understanding the people we support through the VRF, along with looking at the impact our grants have.

We are delighted to have part funded a project to openly publish data on grants to individuals, delivered by ACO and 360Giving. This uses the 360Giving Data Standard and makes the data accessible from the 360Giving data tools like GrantNav.

Project description

This is an important project to support us to better understand the grantmaking picture and see our collective impact. The project aims to improve the availability and use of data on grants to individuals to understand trends and inform grantmakers’ strategy and decision-making. This will include:

  • A common standard for publishing data on grants to individuals (anonymously) using the 360Giving Data Standard, as well as guidance and support to publish.
  • Developing 360Giving’s tools to display these grants to support aggregate analysis and understanding of shared impact.
  • Dashboards to show grantmaking across the newly developed categories to describe the data.
  • A package of support for informed decision-making – including producing analysis and developing skills and culture in grantmakers to use the data more effectively.

The guidelines for publication of these grants will focus on ensuring the recipients of the grants will be anonymous in the published data, to maintain privacy and confidentiality. Further information is available on the 360Giving blog.

Get involved

The project is now seeking wider feedback on the draft categories that have been developed to ensure they work for the broadest range of funders.

Interested parties can complete this short survey to share their views before 9th September 2022.

If you would like to discuss your responses with 360Giving or are interested in joining the project steering group, please contact labs@threesixtygiving.org.
