  • Welcome to our Frontline Network forum, a new venture aimed at connecting, enabling and supporting frontline workers, working with homeless and vulnerably housed clients, across the UK. It is here for you to use to share expertise and experience on some of the issues you face every day in your work. Have a question? Why not ask the forum or join your local discussion group.... BE THE NEXT TO ASK A QUESTION!

  • We have laid out our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Notice separately on the site and you will be asked to agree to these if you would like to register as a user of the Frontline Network. The main purpose of these policies is to ensure that we are able to provide a forum which offers frontline workers a supportive and considerate environment, and allows us to take action if anyone breaches these terms.

The forum is provided as part of the Frontline Network site to further the vision of building links between frontline workers and facilitating the sharing of knowledge in order to improve outcomes for homeless and vulnerably housed people. If your registration is approved, your use of the forum is on the understanding that anything you post is in the context of supporting frontline workers working with people who are homeless or vulnerably housed.

Lastly, we hope that the forum is useful and that it is able to support the work that you do! As a new venture, we are open to suggestions of what you think works and what you think doesn’t – so please feel free to email us any comments at frontline@stmartinscharity.org.uk

Hi all, I was wondering what people's experiences are of service users accessing healthcare? Has it been straightforward and satisfactory, or have they experienced any barriers or substandard treatment? Would be interested to hear your stories!

Hi, I am working with a young kenyan with indefinite leave to remain. He has lost all original documentation (including kenyan passport & ILR confirmation) and i don't know where to start: apply for kenyan passport again? apply for replacement ILR? or is it possible to get citizenship card or such which would work out alot cheaper ? Any advice appreciated Andrew

Is anyone currently working in supported accommodation aware of any good methods of helping clients save for a deposit through eg, a Coop, or other savings model.

We had an event in the North East on 22nd March looking at the Care Act and clients with complex needs (homelessness, substance misuse, mental health and offending). We heard from the CEO of Gateshead Carers about the eligibility criteria to access support through the Care Act and although many of the people we work with do meet the criteria for support, most are not able to access this. We have experienced two main barriers: - Where the person is homeless/has a housing need, this seems to take priority over a care need and Adult Social Care do not feel able to offer support - Where th...

Hi, the organisation I work for is considering using some kind of alcohol testing kits in the accommodation we run. We manage stage 2 & 3 houses which are dry houses (we also run stage 4 which are managed differently). We are discussing the use of alcohol testing kits to aid us in detecting people who are using alcohol and returning to the houses. We often know who is drinking but it is difficult to prove when dealing with experienced drinkers who are good at hiding the signs. How do other organisations use these? How do the clients take it? Which kits are best to use? Are they expensiv...

Has anyone else had experience of UKBA attempting to take action resulting in the threat of administrative removal from the UK for EAA migrants who are working because they are rough sleeping? We were contacted by our local outreach team a few months ago about trying to find some housing quickly as they had come across some Romanian EEA workers in a local park and were concerned that they might be a target for UKBA administrative removal even though they were working. Obviously getting them into housing is the best resolution but that may not be possible immediately (especially in Lond...
